Shelter-Rite was an attractive choice because of its proven resistance to high levels of airborne pollutants.

Automotive_Manufacturer.jpgPROJECT DETAILS:

Client: North American Automotive Manufacturer
Fabric: Shelter-Rite Style 9319 polyester reinforced opaque PVC fabric with White fluoropolymer coating. Skylight Style 9319 polyester reinforced translucent PVC with Milky-White fluoropolymer coating by Seaman Corporation
Support Structure: Aluminum Arches
Fabrication and Installation: Sprung Instant Structures, Inc.

PROJECT STORY:

In addressing the unique challenge faced by a major North American automobile manufacturer requiring a permanent, covered test track for production modules, the innovative solution came in the form of a stressed membrane structure. This sophisticated structure, designed to accommodate the intricacies of automotive testing, presented an unusual shape that would have been impractical with conventional construction methods. Enter Sprung Instant Structures Inc., equipped to meet the challenge with their expertise in building high-quality fabric structures.

The key to this architectural marvel lies in the application of a 24-ounce white PVC coated fabric, strategically placed under extreme tension between a series of aluminum arches. This meticulous engineering approach not only met the complex design requirements but also ensured the structural integrity necessary for a covered test track catering to the needs of a major automobile manufacturer.

For this project, Sprung opted for Shelter-Rite® architectural fabrics coated with fluoropolymer, a choice that underlines the commitment to quality and durability. Manufactured by Seaman Corporation, Shelter-Rite fabric membrane features a combination of opaque white for the main body and translucent white for a skylight section. This dual composition not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also contributes to the functional requirements of the test track.

Beyond aesthetics and functionality, the Shelter-Rite fabric membrane proves its mettle in long-term durability. The automotive manufacturing plant’s location in a heavy industrial area presented challenges related to airborne pollutants. Shelter-Rite emerged as the ideal choice due to its proven resistance to high levels of pollutants, ensuring that the fabric membrane remains resilient and reliable over the extended lifespan required by the automotive testing facility.

In conclusion, the successful collaboration between Sprung Instant Structures Inc. and Shelter-Rite architectural fabrics exemplifies how innovation and quality materials can come together to meet the distinct needs of major industrial projects. This stressed membrane structure not only provides a functional and durable solution for the covered test track but also stands as a testament to the versatility and resilience of architectural fabrics in demanding industrial environments.
