Beijing Tennis Center Relies on Shelter-Rite to Protect Courts

The Sun Park Tennis Center was constructed within Beijing Sun Park using a pressurized air structure made from a Shelter-Rite architectural fabric with Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride film (PVF).

The Sun Park Tennis Center was constructed within Beijing Sun Park using a pressurized air structure made from a Shelter-Rite architectural fabric with Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride film (PVF).

Beijing_Tennis_Club.jpgProject Details:

Client: Sun Park Tennis Center
Fabric: Shelter Rite® Brite™
Engineer: Ohlson Lavoie, Corp.
Fabrication and Installation: Yeadon Fabric Domes, Inc. and MetaSpace Technology Co., Ltd

Project Story:

Prior to 2006, there were 15 outdoor tennis courts in Beijing’s Sun Park, an expansive green space near the city’s center. However, tennis enthusiasts were unable to enjoy their favorite pastime in inclement weather or at times of high levels of air pollution.

In 2006, the first dome was constructed by The Sun Park Tennis Center within Beijing Sun Park using material made from a Shelter-Rite architectural fabric with Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride film (PVF). The 4,000-square-meter tennis center houses six tennis courts and is fully environmentally controlled so that the courts can be used year-round.

In 2009, a second dome was built to cover the badminton courts, and it also used the Shelter-Rite architectural fabric with Tedlar® PVF. In 2014, a third dome was added to the site to cover additional tennis courts, and of course, it was also made with Shelter-Rite architectural fabric with the Tedlar PVF top layer.

The three domes located at this park, within the city of Beijing, show the real value of building with Shelter-Rite architectural fabric with Tedlar® PVF. Anyone that has been to Beijing understands the significant air pollution problems that the city has, but fabric structures made with Shelter-Rite fabrics with Tedlar® PVF remain clean.

The picture shows the three domes made in 2006, 2009 and 2014, all with Shelter-Rite architectural fabric with Tedlar® PVF, and the appearance of the domes are nearly identical; all remaining very clean and white. In the same picture is a tension structure, installed in 2003 and made with a European white architectural fabric with a PVDF top finish. This material was as white as the Shelter-Rite Tedlar® PVF material when it was installed; the material is now a yellow-brown color.
